Corporate development refers to goal-oriented activities for the further development of an economically oriented organization. The focus is traditionally on the expansion and development of a company's sales markets. This purely economic consideration of development potential is no longer far-reaching enough in today's context of increasing ecological and social challenges.
Sustainable corporate development must be in line with the guidelines for sustainable management [VDI 4070] and generate economic success under the premise of ecological compatibility and social justice. However, influences on the three dimensions of sustainability are not only generated within the sales market, but across the entire product life cycle of the goods and services offered. At the same time, product design and manufacture as well as other aspects of the product life cycle have a significant influence on securing and expanding future sales potential.
Due to these dependencies and interactions, especially the development of new product generations provide great potential for change. The focus of the department located at the Production Technology Centre Berlin (PTZ) is traditionally on manufacturing companies.
Next to the development of sustainable business models, our research activities focus on improving the planning and management of production with regard to sustainable value creation. In addition, the department develops inter-company approaches to raise the circulation of materials in the sense of a circular economy in order to generate further improvement potentials at system level. New technological developments and related approaches, such as increasing digital networking across supply chains and product life cycles as defined by Industry 4.0, play a significant role in this context. The development of teaching forms for production engineers in a university and non-university context to enrich the teaching experience completes the research activities of our department.
In summary, our fields of research can be divided into:
- Business model development and sustainable business models
- Factory planning and management
- Sustainable value creation
- Circular Economy
- Industry 4.0 and sustainability
- Learning tools and learning factories
